What is Dual Credit?
#FutureColonel, stop what you are doing and read this post!
Have you heard about dual credit? As a current high school student, it is important that you learn about the opportunity of doing dual credit through Eastern Kentucky University. Dual credit is program offered to juniors and seniors attending certain high schools and home schools in Kentucky (that partner with EKU) who meet the eligibility requirements. Throughout this program, you will have the opportunity to receive college credit from EKU while also receiving high school credit from your school. Sounds great, right?
If that isn’t enough to convince you to find out more about dual credit, here are a few more reasons why you should apply for this program. Students who have taken dual credit courses:
- Are better prepared for college level work.
- Tend to enroll full-time in college after high school graduation.
- Complete college work more quickly and successfully.
- Are able to save thousands of dollars in tuition.
- Are able to fully transfer most, if not all, of their EKU courses to other universities.
How do you know if you qualify? Here are some eligibility requirements:
- You must be a junior or senior in high school.
- You must live in Kentucky.
- You must have a high school GPA of 3.0 and ACT scores on file with EKU.
- You must have minimum ACT scores of 18 in English, 20 in Reading, and a Composite ACT score of 20.
- Your high school or home school must be a participating partner (your guidance counselor can provide you with this information).
If you think the dual credit program sounds appealing and you meet the standards to qualify, your next step is to apply!
We hope you will consider participating in the dual credit program! Also, we hope to see you on the #CampusBeautiful soon!
