An inside look to the #CampusBeautiful
Eastern Kentucky University is referred to as the “Campus Beautiful”. The term "Campus Beautiful" has been used to describe the buildings and landscaping of Eastern as early as 1915. The combination of the beautiful landscaping and architecture was impressive to students coming from rural Kentucky and the "Campus Beautiful" nickname that has survived to the present was created.
EKU is home to many beautiful areas that expand over 892 acres, including:
- The Carloftis Garden: This garden is located behind Martin Hall. There are walkways, fountains, and beautiful shrubbery. As a student, you may find yourself taking an evening walk here and making memories with new friends.
- The Ravine: The Ravine is a grassy amphitheater, located near the Crabbe Library. Many students spend time studying, hanging out with friends, reading, relaxing in hammocks, attending events, and more in this location! The Ravine is a wonderful place to spend time in between classes.
- Ponds: EKU has two ponds, which are viewed as hidden gems. One pond is located behind the Stratton Building and another is located behind the Business and Tech Building. Both ponds are beautiful, offering walkways around them. Visit these ponds to experience a beautiful view, especially in the evenings!
- Landscaping: When you walk around EKU’s campus, you will find beautiful colors surrounding you. EKU continuously cares for vegetation, keeping vibrant flowers all around. The flowers that are planted during the spring are maintained until winter, and offers a lovely, aesthetic appeal to the campus. If that’s not enough, there are many lively trees. These trees are not only beautiful when they are full during the summer, but also as they lose their leaves in the fall.
When visiting EKU, we suggest that you take in all that’s mentioned above! You will have the opportunity to experience beautiful views and begin to grasp why EKU is referred to as the #CampusBeautiful.
